This screening was carried
out on the 28th of October, 2005 in the Sri Aman District Hospital. Sri Aman
is a town situated 198 Km from Kuching. The hospital has no ophthalmologists
in residence, patients with eye problems are seen by the medical assistants.
Those patients who require more detailed ophthalmic examination on
non-urgent basis are given a date to see the visiting ophthalmologists from
Kuching.
In this visit, the
ophthalmologists saw 80 patients in the out-patients in the morning and
afternoon sessions. The majority of these patients have visual problems due
to cataracts. 5 pterygium and 5 cataract operations (ECCE+ IOL) were also
carried out on the same day.
