Metallic IOFB

by Dr. Ngo Chek Tung and Professor Chua Chung Nen

This Indonesian worker was hit in the right eye by a metallic foreign body while cutting metal (most likely steel) in a factory. He sustained perforating injury to the inferior nasal cornea, torn iris and some vitreous haemorrhage. The IOFB could be seen embedded in the inferior retina. The cornea was repaired immediately. Due to corneal haziness, the metallic IOFB was scheduled for removal later. To avoid retinal detachment, the area around the IOFB was lasered.
