Copper intraocular foreign body

This Indonesian worker sustained a right penetrating ocular injury from copper foreign body while cutting copper wire without protective glasses. The sclera laceration was sutured in Miri General Hospital and intravitreal antibiotics (amikacin and vancomycin) given before being transferred to the Eye Department of Sarawak General Hospital, Kuching the next day for foreign body removal. The injured eye was light perception and severely inflammed. The cornea was oedematous and the fundus could not be visualized. The intraocular pressure was normal. He was hospitalized for intensive topical steroid to reduce the inflammation prior to vitreoretinal surgery.
