Central serous retinopathy (CSR) by Dr Adrian Koay, Professor Chua and Dr. Mahadhir Alhady
A 57-year old man presented with a right central scotoma of one-week duration. Fundoscopy revealed a raised macula and the visual acuity was reduced to 6/24 not improved with pin-hole. He had had a similar episode 6 months earlier and this was attributed to central serous retinopathy. The left eye was normal without any evidence of age-related macular degeneration. However, the patient's age was outside the age range for CSR so a OCT was performed to look for any choroidal neovascularization (CNV). The OCT showed sensory retina detachment without evidence of any breach of retinal pigment epithelium or CNV.
