Chalazion scar
causing unequal skin creases
Photo by Professor Chua Chung Nen
A 5-year-old boy who did
not have upper eyelid skin creases developed unequal palpebral height as a
result of a right horizontal upper eyelid scar. The scar arose from a
spontaneously resolved large chalazion. The scar formed a barrier against
skin hooding over the eyelid margin and the descent of preaponeurotic fat.
Consequently, the right palpebral height appeared bigger than the left.
The scar is also the basis
of asian blepharoplasty (double eyelid surgery) in creating a bigger looking
eye.
