Photo by Professor Chua Chung Nen

A 5-year-old girl presented with a 6-month history of .progressive right eyelid closure and tearing. Examination showed an unhappy girl with spasm of the right eye. There was eyelash misdirection as a result of epiblepharon. The cornea showed puntate keratitis. She was given chloramphenicol ointment and underwent an early epiblepharon correction. The surgery involved removing an eclipse of skin together with orbicularis oculi to evert the eyelashes. Post-operatively, she was able to open her eye fully and the keratitis resolved.

Right epiphora and blepharospasm as a result of eyelash misdirection causing corneal abrasion.

The right eye was photophobic due to keratitis.

4-day post-epiblepharon correction. The eyelashes were everted. The wound was closed with

6/0 vicryl sutures and their removal were not required.
