Conjunctival
lipodermoid
Photo by Professor Chua Chung Nen
This 7 year-old girl has
had this lesion in her right temporal conjunctival since birth. She is now
conscious of fellow students staring at her eye and likes to have the lesion
removed. The appearance is typical of a lipodermoid. A orbital CT scan is
ordered to delineate the extension of the lesion. It is important to excise
the lesion completely as any residual dermoid contents may elicit recurrent
orbital inflammation and causes adhesion of the lateral rectus.
