Medial canthal
dermoid
Photo by Dr. Tan Aik Kah
This 4 year-old boy
presented with a left medial canthal swelling which the referring doctor
thought was a mucocele because of intermittent epiphora. However, the
swelling was superior to the medial canthus suggesting that it was unlikely
to be of lacrimal sac origin (which would be posterior to the medial canthus).
A CT scan showed no intracranial extension of the lesion. Excision showed
the expected dermoid cyst anterior to the lacrimal sac.
Left medial canthal swelling.
Dermoid cyst exposed.
Wall of lacrimal sac could be
visualized after the dermoid cyst was excised.
