Port-wine stain of
the face

This 12 month-old boy was
referred by the paediatrician for an ocular assessment because of the
presence of port-wine stain. There was no history of mental retardation or
epilepsy (Note: Sturge-Weber's syndrome refers to facial port-wine stain
with mental retardation). The ocular examination showed normal fundus and
optic disc. The intraocular pressure as measured on tonopen in the clinic
was also normal. The patient was advised to return for yearly examination so
that any raised intraocular pressure could be detected early.
