This woman underwent a
left acoustic neuroma excision. Post-operatively, she developed right lower
facial nerve palsy. She complained of right ocular pain and blurring of
vision. Examination revealed corneal exposure with poor lid closure.
However, the corneal sensation was normal. She was started on lubricant and
antibiotic cream and lateral tarsorrhaphy was performed to reduce the
exposure.
Left lower facial nerve palsy made
obvious by getting the patient to blow her mouth and close
her eyes. Despite good Bell's phenomenon, corneal exposure
could be seen.
