This 30 year-old woman has
had a large right esotropia since childhood. Her vision measures 6/12 in the right
eye and 6/6 in the left eye. Refraction shows no significant ammetropia.
Fundoscopy is normal in both eyes.
Right esotropia in the primary
position (top right); the right eye takes up fixation when the left
eye is covered. She is able to move her right eye laterally and
therefore excludes sixth nerve palsy as a cause. Right abduction
(bottom left) is better than dextroversion (bottom right)
because of the Hering's Law of equal innervation.
