This man was involved in a road traffic accident and complained of a severe loss of his left vision. Examination revealed no light perception in the left eye and a dense relative afferent pupillary defect. Fundoscopy showed haemorrhage around the optic nerve head and the normal contour of the optic disc was lost. CT scan showed optic nerve avulsion.
