Optic nerve avulsion

This man was involved in a
road traffic accident and complained of a severe loss of his left vision.
Examination revealed no light perception in the left eye and a dense
relative afferent pupillary defect. Fundoscopy showed haemorrhage around the
optic nerve head and the normal contour of the optic disc was lost. CT scan
showed optic nerve avulsion.
Left eye is blind with lateral
deviation.
The optic disc loses its normal
