Posterior
communicating artery aneurysm

This 49 year-old woman who
was previously well developed a sudden headache and collapsed at home.
Urgent brain scan revealed a posterior communicating artery aneurysm
confirmed on carotid artery angiogram and the aneurysm was clipped.
Post-operatively the patient complained of diplopia and ptosis. Ocular
movement showed partial third nerve palsy.
Cerebral angiogram shows the
presence of a left posterior communicating aneurysm.
Left partial ptosis and down and
out globe.
Ocular movement shows muscles
supplied by the third nerve have weak actions.
