Buphthalmos
Chung Nen
This 17
year-old boy was born with bilateral congenital glaucoma being more severe
in the left than the right eye. Both eyes underwent trabeculectomies but the
vision in the left eye could not be saved. The left globe was grossly
enlarged with thinning of the sclera showing dark choroid. The cornea showed
band keratopathy and the lens was opaque. Evisceration with prosthesis was
proposed to improve his facial appearance.
Left pseudoproptosis due to
enlarged globe (buphthalmos).
Enlarged globe with stretching of the
sclera revealing the underlying dark choroid.
