Surgical iridectomy

This 65 year-old woman developed acute angle closure glaucoma 20 years ago. At the time, there was no laser machine in our department. She underwent bilateral surgical iridectomies to abolish the pupillary blocks. She recently underwent left phacoemulsification and implant. Because of previous ischaemic injury, the iris was floppy and there was iris prolapse during the procedure. Otherwise, the operation was successful.

Surgical iridetomy and iris atrophy. The iris atrophy resulted from previous acute

angle closure glaucoma in the right eye.

Left surgical iridectomy and iris atrophy. The iris atrophy involves the 1 and 11 O'clock

corresponding to the entry sites of phaco tip and second instrument. The atrophy resulted

from iris prolapse during surgery.
