This 50 year-old woman
with cleft palate was born with recurrent red eyes. Over the years she had
consulted many ophthalmologists who treated her eyes for conjunctivitis
without improvement. Examination showed limbal stem cell failure with
corneal neovacularization and calcification. Attempt to halt and reverse the
changes in the right cornea
with amniotic membrane was unsuccessful. The right cornea developed plaque
of calcification under the amniotic membrane three months after the surgery.
The left cornea had a small plaque of calcification and also corneal
neovascularization.
