Squamous papilloma and its treatment

Photo by Professor Chua Chung Nen

A 75 year-old man suffered from progressive decrease in his left vision. Examination revealed a white lesion extending from the superior bulbar conjunctiva and covered most of the cornea. There were multiple frond-like vessels and areas of haemorrhages. The appearance was typical of squamous papilloma. During the excision, the papilloma appeared to have arisen from the superior limbal region and formed a sessile mass over the cornea and the superior bulbar conjunctiva. The vision improved from counting fingers to 6/18 4 days post-excision.
