Viral keratitis
Photo by Dr. Ngo Chek Tung
This 17 year-old man
complained of a one-week history of right blurred vision. Prior to this,
he had had 10-year of right red eye with watery dicharge. The vision was
6/24 and slit-lamp examination revealed multiple supepithelial round
opacities with infiltrate. The history suggested that this might be
adenoviral keratitis, he was started on topical betamethasone q.d.s. At
the same time, he was covered with topical 3% acyclovir in case this was
atypical herpetic keratitis. The vision improved to 6/9 after one week.
Betamethasone was reduced to b.d. and the acyclovir was discontinued.
