Subconjunctival graphite

Photo by Dr. Ngo Chek Tung

A 37 year-old man was concerned about enlargement of a pigmented lesion in his right nasal conjunctiva. He was assaulted with a pencil while in primary school and had the tip of the pencil lead (despite the name, the pencil lead contain no lead but graphite) embedded in the right nasal conjunctiva. Examination showed the enlargement appeared to be disintegration of the graphite. He was relieved with the explanation and chose to leave the lesion behind.
