A 60 year-old asympatomatic man who underwent
a left phacoemulsification and implant was noted to have capsulophimosis. It
is first described by in 1993, the capsulophimosis risk is a fibrous
contraction of epithelial cells covering the anterior capsule, which may
lead, within less than a month, to a violent rhexis constriction in front of
the optic. This complication is linked to the capsulorhexis technique (it
did not exist with the anterior capsule opening in capsulotomy). This
condition can sometimes cause lens decentration and also reduces the fundal
view (which is important in diabetic patient). As this patient is neither
symptomatic or diabetic, nothing needs to be done.
