Stitch corneal ulcer

A 68 year-old man presented with a left painful red eye. He underwent an uncomplicated left extracapsular cataract operation and implant two years ago. The left vision was reduced to 6/60. Slit-lamp examination showed two broken stitches with surrounding corneal ulcers superiorly and a hypopyon. The stitches were removed and he was started on intensive topical gentamicin and ceftazidine. Corneal scrapping grew Streptococcus pnumoniae sensitive to ceftazidine.
