Conjunctival flap
for corneal perforation

A 14 year-old complained
of decreased left vision following a vigorous rubbing of his left eye. He
sustained an injury to his left peripheral cornea 5 years earlier when a
schoolmate threw some sands into his left eye which caused corneal infection
that healed with peripheral scarring. On examination, his vision was 6/60
and the anterior chamber was shallow with iris prolapse. An urgent
conjunctival flap was performed to seal the perforation. Post-operatively,
his vision improved to 6/9 despite an irregular pupil. Tectonic graft was
considered but not performed immediately as the resultant corneal distortion from the
graft was likely to reduce the visual acuity.
