Leucoma

Photo by Professor Chua Chung Nen

This Indonesian worker from Java is noted by his employer to have poor vision especially at night. His vision was 6/60 in the right eye improved with pin hole to 6/18 and hand movement in the left eye. The cornea has scars in both eyes with anterior synechiae. The left pupil is eccentric. He gave a history of illness when he was a young child and on recovery his vision was poor. It is likely that he had measles which in the presence of vitamin A deficiency can lead to corneal melts. The left vision could be improved by dilating the eye and therefore iridectomy is schedule to centralize the visual axis.
