Eyelid and corneal
perforation

This newly wed woman was
cutting onion when she slipped and fell on a knife. The eyelid showed a
small entry wound. The cornea had a full-thickness laceration together with
lens capsule rupture. An emergency operation was performed to remove the
lens and an anterior chamber wash-out was performed with vancomycin solution to avoid
endophthalmitis. The cornea was sutured with 10/0 nylon. The patient was put
on oral ciprofloxacin for one week. The recovery was uneventful and a
secondary implant was planned.

Full thickness corneal laceration
with breach of the anterior capsule of the lens.
The anterior chamber was hazy due
to inflammation and hyphaema.
Corneal laceration was sutured and
the eye was left aphakic for the time being.
