Exposed explant
Chung Nen
This 55 year-old
Australian tourist was seen in the eye casualty complaining of recurrent
discharge from the right eye. The discharge was not helped by the
chloramphenicol eyedrop prescribed by her GP prior to leaving Australia.
Examination revealed exposed explant covered with eyelashes and debris.
She had had a retinal detachment operation 3 years earlier. The lashes
and debris were removed and she was prescribed G garasone qds (dexamethasone
and gentamicin) and oral augmentin for 5 days (as she was traveling to
the jungle). She was advised to have the explant removed on her return
to Australia.
Conjunctival cavity covered with
eyelashes and debris.
