Traumatic eyelid retraction

This 45-year-old woman was involved in a traffic accident and sustained multiple lacerations to the forehead and right upper eyelid. Following primary repair by the attending doctor, she complained of problem with eyelid closure.  Examination showed shortage of the upper eyelid skin and it was likely that the attending doctor excised some of the skin during the initial repair. A skin graft procedure was performed using the skin from the clavicular area. She was able to close her eye following the procedure.

Normal eyelid appearance in the primary position.

Significant lid retraction on downgaze.
